Stone is normally seen within a range of these finishes: Honed, High-honed, and Polished. Constant foot-traffic can cause even the most dense polished stone to form microscopic suface scratches that dull the reflective finish.

Honed stone is not as greatly affected by surface scratches from treading feet. Instead, honed surfaces will accumulate dirt and filth within the tiny groove formations causing these particular stones to appear dirtier than they really are.

The areas in a facility that are most affected by exposure inlude: entrances, floors, lobbies, stairs, walls, and patios. Although stone is a very hard element, its surface can be manipulated to withstand or conform to the coming and going of society.
